What Is Medical Identity Theft?
Medical identity theft is perhaps the most dangerous form of identity theft. This happens when a person uses your identity to get medical care in your name. The reason for doing something like that is that these people don't have insurance and want to receive good medical care or perhaps they have a criminal record and don't want to raise any red flags.
What ever the reason, they get medical care in your name and you receive a bill for thousands of dollars. But the worst part isn't even the money. When an identity thief uses your identity for their medical care certain items in your medical records will be changed. This could potentially be life threatening. In the event of an emergency or a surgical procedure you may need a blood transfusion and your medical records may now have the wrong blood type listed. Other medical conditions or allergies to medications may be listed that are completely inaccurate because the ID thief was seen by a doctor that would then add these items to your chart. Medical ID theft is very serious and could even be life threatening.
